- Pruning Video
In 1973 we planted our first vines, and established our vineyards at the Elm Valley location in 1976. These vineyards have been increased until today the property is fully planted with about 20 acres of vines. Varieties we grow include pinot noir, vignoles, pinot gris, regent, riesling, chardonnay and pinot meunier. We also purchase significant amounts of chardonnay and pinot noir from other growers here on the Leelanau Peninsula for our L.Mawby wines. We source for M.Lawrence from Leelanau Peninsula, southwest Michigan and the west coast.
Larry Mawby has been making our L.Mawby traditional method sparkling wines since our first sparkling winemaking in 1984. Since 2010, Mike Laing has been responsible for the M. Lawrence cuve close method sparkling wines.
Look for MAWBYman, appearing randomly anywhere wine drinkers gather. MAWBYman, dapper and silent, hands out swag, without swagger. Note the tie. And the hat. Exclusively MAWBYman. Grin available separately, for all lovers of MAWBYness.

Soil Speaking [Place Talk], Terroir poetry
Fine traditional method sparkling wines, classically styled, produced entirely from grapes grown on the Leelanau Peninsula. These wines express the character of this special place, the care of the people tending the vines, and the purity of intent of those guiding the transformation of grape to sparkling wine. The poetic brother to the songs of M.Lawrence. MAWBYhome.
Grape Singing [Fruit Songs], Flavor riffs
Cuve Close method sparkling wines produced entirely from grapes grown on planet earth. Singing with joy, making music of the grape, pleasure bubbling out of the wine, finding it’s place in your heart. Musical sibling in the MAWBY family. MAWBYsing.
Limited series of traditional method sparkling wines celebrating the human places of the Leelanau Peninsula. Local MAWBYness. Available only from our online store or in the tasting room.
All the special stuff you need to enjoy our wines – clothes to wear, tools for opening and resealing bottles. The stuff you really cannot do without if you want to experience MAWBY at home; the stuff you want to wear with pride, exhibiting your MAWBYness to friends and the rest of the world.
Personal Imprint & Custom Labels
Two types of customized labels can be applied to any of our wines.
Imprint a personal message of up to four lines of text [in a choice of three fonts, example above shows Garamond Italic] in black on the front of either of our L. Mawby or M. Lawrence wine label bases. This service costs $50, just $50 plus the cost of the wine, for anything from one case to several thousand [limited to some of our wines, not every wine]. This service typically takes 2 weeks, please inquire if you require faster turnaround. Click Imprint button to go to our on-line store to place an order for your personal imprint.
Several of our wines can be custom labeled. This service is more costly than the personal imprint service, but allows you to do full color labels with photos, etc. Minimum cost is $80, which provides labels for up to 10 cases of wine. Click CUSTOM for more information.
